Let’s start with the good news. /dev/tty2 is finally live! I thought it was “ready to buy” but it turned out Drop started with a preorder page. But there shouldn’t be delays, this is the third time we make these and the manufacturer can vomit /dev/tty pretty easily by now.
Please note that there will be some updates in the coming hours! More keys will be added and few things fixed. Honestly I didn’t know Drop was about to release the Kraken so soon.
Susuwatari is in production right now and as far as I know it is very close to be completed. As I said few weeks ago they rushed the production so I’m still not sure what will be actually released. We sent the manufacturer a very detailed report but I don’t think we’ll be able to fix any error unless it is very very bad.
That’s all for now! Stay safe!

Oh, damn, I regret ordering dev/tty before the updates were up! Guess I may well be paying for shipping twice.
Cancel and reorder?
And some of the base kits are available for immediate shipping, while the pre-orders won’t be shipped until October.
you can edit your order on the transaction page
I ordered /dev/tty caps in March of 2018 (I think it was the first drop) and have been using them happily ever since. Now I want to mix in the Colemak set from the current drop.
Are there any substantial changes between the first drop and this one? I assume colors, fonts, textures, etc. on the caps are all basically the same, correct? Just trying to avoid having a smattering of keys on my board that look ever so slightly different from the others.
Everything is exactly the same, but plastic color changes from batch to batch even so slightly. Usually the difference is neglectable but I won’t know exactly until I get the first production samples.
Glad I checked your blog today, just placed an order for base, numpad, lost+found and a 6.25u space.
My one disappointment is I didn’t see an R4 1.5u Shift in any of the packs except I believe the full Ergodox pack? I know 1.5u Shifts are rarely seen but the new Evolv 75% board in IC right now plans to use it.
Isn’t 6.25u space part of the base?
yes it is (you can have extras if you want :))
So what are the changes? I haven’t or notice any updates yet.
Ergodox is completely new. Ortholinear is updated. Colomak/Dvorak supports even more layouts. The base kit supports everything from TLK to 60%. New spacebar sizes. More keys in the extra mods. New novelties. Japanese kit. That’s just from the top of my head.
Thanks, it would be very nice if the standard Triumph mods as a standalone kit. The reason is a lot of people purchased the original /dev/tty set in the original color. You will save us a lot of money if triumph mods are offered as a standalone kit so we don’t have to buy the whole base kit just to get the triumph colorway for the modifiers.
The extra mods are nice but it is missing some keys and the function keys begin at F13.
You know, I would love to be able to give all the options. Drop seems to prioritize “noobs” and make kits as simple as possible and I can add a gazillion kits. What you see now is the best compromise I can offer at the moment, but I’m always open to suggestions.
LoL, well, at least I tried, and it was a good try.
Yes!!! Thanks for the update!
Any chance we’ll ever see a rerun of the cyrillic and elvish legends? Also there used to be this dev/tty@ novelty which is gone now, any chance that can be added?
I tend not to replicate specialty kits… but we’ll see. Regarding the /dev/tty2 novelty… who knows! :)
Awesome! Happy they’re making a comeback, hopefully arrives in time for my new Atreus.
I’m also outfitting my ErgoDox, but I was curious… was it intentional to only have enough blank modifiers for one side?
Thanks matt3o!
Just placed my order. Your various posts on the keycaps really helped with the info and personal touch.
The improvements for this run were really appreciated (Especially the blank sets, but the Side Printed Kit might turn out really good).
I really think you succeded in increasing the number of possible combinations! (While there was no 5U or 5.5U spacebar and I had to buy the whole Numpad set for the R2+R3 button, I understand that there might be no real market for those keys)
I’ve been looking at the MT3 Serika keycaps, and really dig the black-on-black keys. Any chance you will make a full set of BoB?
Hey Matt3o, the dev/tty Ergo kit updates are AWESOME, thank you so much for taking the feedback! I will have 100% legend accurate ergo boards finally. Ordered 1 normal ergo, 1 triumph ergo and a bleached kit (for a blanks Preonic) just now.
If the newest version of /dev/tty supports side-printing and MT3 is similar to SA, any reason Drop can’t release a MT3 version of Retro with side-printed petscii? I like how /dev/tty uses PBT over SA Retro’s ABS.
you can’t dye-sub white on black (or brown for the matter) unfortunately
But I think one can doubleshot white onto PBT.
Thank you so much for including a Bleached set. Bleached /dev/tty is my grail keycap set, and I’ll finally have it.
Any hope of some 1U vendors keys in the Lost and Found set?
I’m sorry, that would be a lot of additional keys and it’s too late now
for the next rev would you consider an ortho triumph kit? There are some keys in the extra triumph mods kit, and some in the ergo triumph kit, but unless I’m mistaken I don’t see some (tab, for instance)
yes, in future runs I’ll add more color options.
Is the R5 of the ortholinear kit flat or angled?
R5 is always flat.
Thank you!
Just got a new keyboard and don’t like the look of the caps on this one. Would love to get this set. Shame I’m a bit late.
Any idea of when the next batch would be? Since the first and this had quite a gap, guessing not too soon.
Would need to order base, numpad, international and Lost + Found or similar on the next one due to having a nordic Vortex Tab 90m but would be so worth it..
Hi, I am trying to get a set of susuwatari but does the base kit comes with 7U spacebar?
yeah basekit has a 7u
I love the new base kit that supports 60, 65, 75 and TKL!! Unfortunately missed this round but really hope there’s going to another soon!
I recently picked up the current TKL /dev/tty set (with R4 bottom row), and I love it!
I’ve kind of sad that I missed the drop you linked in this news post – the base kit included an alternate R2 version of the ↑ key that isn’t in any of the currently available kits. Going between the ↑ and ↓ arrows is a quite a big jump when both are R4.
Have you considered an R3 version of the ↑ key? I’ve seen a few other keysets do that, and when I tried it on MT3 by borrowing an R3 key from elsewhere on the keyboard it felt pretty natural.
R3 is slanted to the back, R2 to the front. That makes going from up to down arrow very easy and natural. I think that’s the best alternative for the ↑
Did you ever receive the /dev/tty2 shine-through samples?
Any plans to add them soon?
side print first. when that is sorted out we can work on something new
On the drop page there are two different images of the ergo set, mind commenting on which one is the correct one? The larger one in image 18 or the smaller one on image 29?
I see only one “Ergo-something”. There are quite a few keys there.
The website doesn’t show you all if you zoom in, need to flick through the pictures while not zoomed in
Also, when selecting the Ergodox kit for adding to cart it shows a different smaller kit compared to what’s shown in the overview page-tab
I designed only one, I don’t if Drop did something funky there. I’d say the ergodox kit is the bigger one, but ask Drop if you want to be sure.
Another question, do you know if all the small spacebars, especially 2u, are convex? It doesn’t say in the images as far as I can tell
Drop didn’t send me the spacebar kit so I can’t confirm. They all should be convex.
I do so love my set on my Ergodox, thank you for all your work matt3o!
Just bought these, and I’m super impressed! These are my first MT3 keys, and I couldn’t have made a better purchase.
Two nitpicks—Wish they were shine-through, and came with homing indents on the F and J keys. The scoop does feel more pronounced, but the indents would be far more useful.
Ok. I find myself looking for things to type each morning—it’s insane how pleasurable these are to run your fingers over. I’m using Kailh box whites, so the tactile bump is just icing on the cake.
After nearly a decade of Apple MacBook flat-tops and some such, this makes me feel like I have attained typing nirvana.
typing nirvana is exactly what we aim for :D
Trying my luck here, any idea when /dev/tty will be restocked on Drop?
unfortunately I have no news about that
